Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

Ross Bridge Dentistry Statement - 9/10/2020

We understand that patients are feeling confused, frustrated and receiving false information about the changes occurring at the office. Please read the following to understand how Ross Bridge Dentistry works with insurance companies to provide the best care possible. If you have questions, please call our office at 205-945-3035 because we do not want misinformation to guide your decisions about where you seek dental care.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

We accept and file insurance claims with every PPO (preferred provider organization) dental insurance company. We are not listed as an in-network provider with any dental insurance company. For routine dental care, the in- vs. out- of network provider distinction does not have much impact on what the patient pays or experiences in our office. For other offices, the lower in-network reimbursement rate can make an impact on the materials that they select, what procedures they perform and how much time they can spend with each patient. We understand that all patients have a choice in who they select for their dental care. We pride ourselves in providing the best dental treatment and experience to our patients, this cannot be done within the confines of being an in-network provider due to the extremely low reimbursement rates. We will not allow dental insurance companies to dictate how we care for our patients. This is our main reason for choosing to be an out-of-network provider. If you have any question, please call us at 205-945-3035 or come to the office to meet our team.

What about Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama?

Unfortunately, dental insurance provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama will pay absolutely nothing to an out-of-network provider. They are the one and only dental insurance company that limits their customers to exclusively seeing an in-network provider. We made the decision to leave the network due to the reduction in the BCBS of AL reimbursement rates at a time when our supply costs are higher than ever due to the pandemic. As an in-network provider they were only reimbursing us approximately 30% of our normal fee. Due to this, we made the decision to discontinue our in-network provider status as of August 23, 2020. We would be unable to consistently provide the quality dental care we pride ourselves in with the amount of money that BCBS of AL is willing to pay us for preventive and restorative work. We are very sorry if this decision feels sudden, but after careful fee analysis we saw there was no other choice. We are making every effort to contact current patients that have BCBS of AL by phone to inform them of our decision. We are also sending a letter that has details about our decision to every patient of ours that has BCBS of AL. For every BCBS of AL patient that we have seen during this transition, we have decided not to burden the patient with the cost of treatment that we anticipated to be covered by BCBS of AL. Please call us at 205-945-3035 to speak with someone at the office about how we can continue to be of service to you.

What options do I have other than insurance?

We are introducing a new in-office membership plan. It is our goal to provide unrestricted care to all patients who are in need of dental treatment. In an effort to accomplish this goal we have created this in-office membership plan to assist any patient who is not covered by dental insurance. If your dental insurance is not covering all of your preventative needs, consider dropping your plan and signing up for our in-office membership plan. We believe that this is a comparable alternative to traditional dental insurance and it has the added benefit of no waiting periods, no maximums and no deductibles. Please call us at 205-945-3035 to speak with someone at the office about how we can continue to be of service to you.
